“CREATE A GLOBAL BUSINESS FROM A GOOD IDEA”

We’ve all heard the story. Two out of three businesses fail in their first six years. The pain of a failed business is a miserable experience many of us understand too well. They say that next to the death of a loved one or the breakup of a marriage, losing a business is the most painful even in life.

Tom Matzen – entrepreneur, bestselling author, international business coach – tells us, “It doesn’t have to happen this way. In my experience, starting and running a business doesn’t have to have tragic consequences. In fact, properly done, a business can truly add more life to the entrepreneur and his family. Unfortunately, there are few entrepreneurs who have achieved success in their business careers and personal lives.”

For Matzen’s business, PAR is an acronym:

P – Passion
A – Aim
R – Rough

PASSION

Owning a business leads to the highest highs and the lowest lows. If you aren’t in a business that you can be truly passionate about, it will soon become just a bad job with high economic risk.

AIM

“Start with the end in mind.”

So start with a clear vision of what your business will look like when it’s done.

THE ROUGH

“It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way you will go.”

Landing in the rough need not be scary. If you choose the right path and tools, it can lead to an even better outcome. Find a new partner, an investor perhaps, who can share your core values and ethics.

PAR
* Passion. Start your business or your project with a concept you are truly passionate about.
* Aim. Line up properly and take aim at your ultimate outcome.
* Rough. Be prepared to get out of the rough as often as necessary; accept it, adjust, and get back on track.

Matzen offers one final thought: “The reason you set a goal is for what it will make of you once you achieve it. Happy life, and may your strokes be few and straight up the middle.”
